Games in "Heroes of Might and Magic" and "Might and Magic" series are all about strategy and fighting. I'm utterly convinced that they are the best of the best among PC games, that require thinking, careful, considered, weighted approach to the fighting issue. They are not the games where you just kill everybody everywhere on sight. No, these games do not tolerate such an attitude. You have to think whom to fight and how, and when, and it is necessary at all, and if it is, what must be done in order to be victorious.
I've played these games many years. In the Heroes series I've begun with the now ancient King's Bounty, which was my everynight relaxation medicine in more than 2 years. Next one was the Heroes II: The Succession Wars, and it was the love from first sight. Love with the big L. I've waited for each new game and expansion with an impatience of a 4 years old child waiting for the Christmas presents. The first day a new gamebox has appeared in a store I was there, and the same night I was already playing till dawn, and the next day, and the next...Until I didn't beat it all, both campaigns and scenarios.
When the choice of game scenarios was exhausted, the random maps of Heroes III were created and played. And I was never completely satiated. There are people addicted to many diffirent things on this planet. I'm addicted to the Heroes of Might and Magic. And Heroes of Might and Magic III is still my favorite game.
Through Heroes of Might and Magic I've discovered the extra world of Might and Magic series. My vision of this fantasy realm created by the New World Computing guys was suddenly extended till the far horizons. I've played Might and Magic VI, VII, VIII, IX with the different sets of characters many times each game. Then I've decided that as there isn't any switching between difficulty levels I might as well create one. So, the idea of solo playing with only one character was born in my head. Since then I've finished all four of the games, MM 6, 7, 8 and recently 9 all with only one magic hero, and one might hero.
That was incredibly cool! I've enjoyed the game tremendously. With each time I've beaten the game I discovered something new, some new opportunity in the game, some new possibility to improve my playing. Well, I suppose that all above does classify me as the Heroes and MM freak. I don't hide it. I'm crazy about them.
In the Autumn of 2000 I've discovered that I'm not alone. There are more freaks like me in the world. I've discovered the world of Heroes & MM fans on the Web. I've joined 3DO Community. I was thrilled. I've found new friends, shared my opinions with them, listened to other people and spoke myself. I added one more addiction to my list - 3DO Community. (Doctors, is it bad, or very bad?) I am still frequent visitor there even today, two years since. I've found that my experience in the games could help others, those who just began to open the huge and wonderful world of Heroes and MM for themselves. I dedicate this page to them and the whole idea of creating Strategy section on the site was based on the desire to help the newbies.
I've tried to compile here all tips and advises that could help a new player in Heroes of Might and Magic III and IV & Might and Magic VI, VII, VIII, IX in an ordinary game with the whole party of characters and in a solo game (with only one character). There are no pure spoilers here, as I am utterly convinced that the spoiler is an extreme measure, which kills a thrill of the game (however, if any of you are in an urgent need of any spoiler, you are welcome to ask me).
I tried my best. I hope you like the result. If anyone would want to add anything to any subject, you are welcome. My belief is that the more opinions - the better. We are all different. All players play according to their style and personality. There is no ultimate recipes here, only hints and advises. It's for you to decide your own fate within the game. |
